These are just some of the questions that might be discussed by English Language and Literature students: How can I manipulate different features of language to write a story of my own?; What are the differences between written and spoken English?; What are the different ways in which people put over their views, prejudices and feelings?; Are novels written in the language of real life? The course is aimed at anyone who enjoys creative writing and also enjoys reading non-fiction as well as literary texts. A proportion of time is spent talking and writing about texts so you will need to enjoy the in depth study of this. The course will develop your skills as a critical reader, your ability to listen attentively to the views of others, and establish your own critical viewpoints through speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will have the chance to flex your creative muscle through writing an extended piece of creative, original fiction. You will also learn to evaluate your own writing in detail.
