Figure Painting and Drawing

A focused study on how to paint and draw the human figure in a variety of contexts. The course will include a small element of life drawing with a model.

Name: Figure Painting and Drawing Qualification title: Non regulated Community Learning provision, Crafts, Creative Arts and Design Qualification type: Assessment Structured and themed classes, group demonstrations with practical advice on techniques, one to one tuition and one to one feedback on work. Group discussions on the work produced by you and the other students. Colour reproductions, whiteboard and/or computer presentation of subjects of study, which will include the following: Drawing Skills (Drawing Volume, Form and Space; Foreshortening and Perspective; Tonal Drawing, Drawing from Observation (Life class- The Human Figure);Drawing as a Preparation for Painting ( sketchbooks, preparatory and compositional drawings; Thinking through ideas with drawing; Drawing techniques and materials (pencil, charcoal pen brush wash). Painting Skills. The Colour Wheel, Mixing Colours (primary secondary tertiary), Watercolour techniques; Techniques for Painting in acrylics. Using Colour to Create Volume Form and Space. Painting techniques (e.g. shadows, textures, glazing colours, 'wet into wet' , 'alla prima', transparent layers of colour, opaque layers of colour.; collage techniques; painting from your imagination; Looking at examples of specific painting skills. Entry requirements

Pencils charcoal, pen and ink, media of your choice. Tutor will advise what to bring for future lessons. Brushes paints, palettes, charcoal, paper, These will be advised at the first lesson and where to purchase them economically. These materials should cost no more than £20-30 over the entire year.
