Ask someone to name a very famous scientist and it is likely that they will name a physicist (probably Einstein or Newton, perhaps Hawking or Cox). Physics is the most fundamental of all of the sciences. It deals with microscopes which can look at how all life begins and telescopes trained on galaxies, trying to find out how it may all end! Any Physics qualification is accepted as a very valuable currency and could lead to thousands of course choices in higher education. Theories are only valid if experiments can test and confirm them. Experimental physics will permeate the course. Techniques and understanding will be acquired as a natural part of the learning process. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their learning in a well-resourced, stimulating and exciting environment. Competence in mathematics is essential as from 2015 all Physics assessments have to contain a minimum of 40% quantitative questions. The A Level will contain topics like: Particles, Quantum Phenomena, Electricity, Mechanics, Materials, Waves, Fields, Nuclear and Thermal Physics.
