The Applied ICT A Level aims to produce effective, discerning ICT users who: can select and use appropriate ICT tools and techniques to help them carry out investigation, capture and handle data, solve problems, make decisions =, and present and communicate information; are aware of the benefits and drawbacks of ICT and its impact on the way in which people live their lives; can plan and manage projects and work effectively with others. This is very much a practical course focussing on a wide range of software skills; particularly web authorising, multimedia, spreadsheets and databases. Assessment is by coursework portfolios and practical examinations. There are no written examinations. Successful candidates will be independent learners who are adept at managing their time effectively, cgood communicators and efficient problem solvers. Students who successfully complete the qualification will be well equipped to move onto degress in related subjects such as ICT, Information Systems, Multimedia, Web Design, Media and Communication Studies, Computer Networking, e-Business and Information Management.
