Sign Language Level 2

This 80-hour intensive course in Ashford is delivered in partnership with Hi Kent (www.hikent.org) and leads to the Signature Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language. Students MUST have already passed the Level 1 Award in BSL and preferably have attended a Preparing for Level 2 course or be working using BSL. At the end of the course students should be able to: Communicate in BSL about day-to-day topics including greetings, shopping, describing home and work place, talking about the weather, transport and directions; ask and understand questions in order to sustain an everyday conversation. Carry out day to day activities; shopping for food and other; travelling; eating out. Describe people, animals and objects as well as places in greater detail using BSL order and a range of facial expressions and body language. Provide personal, social and work information. Compare and express preferences; state likes and dislikes. Communicate about home, school, college or work including directions, refreshments, using numbers in relation to time and calendar, using BSL order and a range of facial expressions and body language. A further 60 hours of practice during the course, preferably with native BSL users, is also required. The tutor will be able to advise on how to achieve this. The full qualification comprises three units, two of which will be videoed, assessed by the tutor and then sent to Signature for final marking. There will be assigned dates for the assessments during the course hours. These dates, which cannot be altered, will be advised by your tutor. This course is for students who wish to acquire intermediate level skills to enhance communication with Deaf people, or those who are Deaf themselves and wish to gain a qualification in their native language. It is also suitable for those who have Deaf family, friends and colleagues and those who wish to progress from Level 1 to a more advanced level of study in BSL.
