Inclusive Dance for Mobility

UPDATED 20150720 11:08:36

You will learn how to improve mobility, suppleness, stamina and co-ordination whilst moving and dancing to a wide range of musical styles and cultures. It is an opportunity to develop confidence and enjoyment in dance by exploring dance forms and other movement ideas. We will work towards devising a dance piece to be shown in class at the end of the course. Lessons will include a warm up and a high level of input from you as you chose which themes and genres you would like to work on as individuals, pairs and small groups. You will also learn the health benefits of attending a regular movement class and the teaching will reflect the different fitness levels of individuals. Participants must complete a health questionnaire before they start their first lesson. By the end of this course you should be able to: Demonstrate an ability to follow a set of coordinated movements in a warm-up, Develop and improve your sense of rhythm using a variety of music, Improve your ability to copy steps and develop your own, Increase your control and flexibility of movement, Take an idea and work as a group to make decisions on how we might make a group piece. You will negotiate with the tutor more specific outcomes, based on the above, to suit your ability and experience. The course has been designed for students with learning difficulties and with mixed ability in the subject although adults without additional needs are more than welcome and encouraged to join. You need to be able to respond to people using gestures or words, participate in shared activities with less support and sustain concentration for short periods. You need to be able to show an interest in the subject.
