The Art of Papier Mache

UPDATED 20150720 11:06:03

Papier mache is a versatile medium and can be moulded and built to make a variety of shaped vessels that are lightweight and durable. On this course, the emphasis is on shape, colour, texture and expressive art. You will learn how to make pots or bowls from paper using layering and pulp methods. You will then decorate them using paintings you have made or images you have chosen, different colours, papers and even gold leaf to make gorgeous, unique pieces, personal to you. The tutor, Helen Beeken (her professional name), is a practising artist and examples of her inspiring bowls can be seen online. At the end of the course students should be able to: make pot pulp, build a vessel in stages using pot pulp, build vessels using layering methods, decorate and seal vessels. There is no set homework on this course, but you might need to prepare or collect materials for the next session and you are welcome to work at home to get the most out of the course. There is no qualification for this course. This course is for beginners and those with a little experience, and for artists who wish to use their paintings and drawings in a new way.
