This is a practical Art course in which you will be expected to develop an individual approach to the subject of painting with an emphasis on abstraction. There will be opportunities to see and discuss work by modern and contemporary artists and to consider the ideas behind and influences on their work. You will be encouraged to incorporate new ideas and approaches into your own work. By the end of the course you should be able to: Produce a body of work based on the projects set during the course, Draw and paint subjects derived from a variety of sources including landscape, memory and natural forms. Develop work that relates either to design, colour, pattern, tonal attitude etc of well-known artists work. Then to incorporate one or two of these aspects into your own work whilst maintaining your own personal style and voice. Improve your knowledge of abstract art and of art in general and demonstrate this through your projects, Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, Those interested in Abstract Art, beginners and the more experienced are welcome as projects will be self directed. It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you or be accompanied by another adult please ask to speak to a Programme Manager before you enrol.

Entry requirements

You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to your preferred medium. From the outset we will be working in colour, so please bring a range of pencils, some coloured medium eg paint, pastels or any other materials that you already have that might be appropriate to the first lesson. You will also need an A4 sketchbook, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound containing good quality cartridge paper. If you are a complete beginner and have no materials at all, please wait for your tutor's advice about what to buy on the first day of the course. .
