A course to develop your drawing skills. Using a variety of drawing media and materials, e.g. pencil, charcoal, ink, you will explore a range of mark making possibilities, and will gain confidence in using the formal elements - line, tone, texture and composition. By working from both direct observation and from photographic references and sketches, you will encounter a variety of interesting and stimulating subject matter - landscape, still life, natural forms, etc. Reference will also be made to the work of other artists as appropriate. By the end of this course you should be able to: Work from a variety of primary and secondary subject matter. Produce drawings that demonstrate a basic awareness of the formal elements. Select and use the appropriate drawing media and materials. Recognise the drawing styles and techniques of selected fine artists. Work to health and safety guidelines. Beginners or those with a little experience. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices.If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
