Introduction to Drawing

This course will help to develop your skills and confidence in drawing in pencil and/or charcoal. The course will cover fundamental principles in drawing and you will be introduced to the work of a variety of artists. By the end of this course you should be able to: plan a composition and consider spatial relationships, draw more accurately from observation, draw using tone to establish structure and create solidity of form, draw using line and gesture, start to develop a personal approach to drawing. There is no set 'homework', but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home. There is no qualification for this course. Absolute beginners or those with a little experience.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy things at competitive prices. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
