Painting Styles - The Gardens of Monet, Pissarro and Renoir

How have artists represented gardens? This course will focus on the paintings of Claude Monet, Camille Pissaro and Pierre Renoir. You will learn about the similarities and differences between these three great Impressionist painters, and make a small painting using their styles as a point of reference. By the end of this course you should be able to: Recognise the styles and techniques of three major artists. Select and use a range of materials and methods. Produce painted studies that explore colour and light. Work to health and safety guidelines. Students who have completed a Beginners course or have some experience. It is important to note that art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound, and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy materials at competitive prices. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
