Learn the processes and techniques to communicate ideas through image-making. On this course you will learn how to research and develop your visual ideas. You will be introduced to a variety of traditional and contemporary materials, media and techniques, including collage, cut-outs, drawing, painting, and relief objects. Importantly, you will explore the relationship between text and image, and how these combinations are used to communicate concepts. You will create a portfolio of work using a range of media and will learn about illustration practice. By the end of this course you should be able to: Research, generate and communicate ideas in response to a design brief. Select and use a wide range of media, materials and techniques, appropriate to the subject matter, Explore the relationship between text and image, and produce designs that reflect this. Communicate a narrative through a single image and sequential narratives. Work to health and safety guidelines. Beginners and those with limited experience.

Entry requirements

If you are a new student and have no materials please wait for your tutor's advice on what to buy. However, all students should bring an A4 sketchbook of good quality cartridge paper, preferably with a hard cover and ring bound, and a variety of pencils. You will need to provide your own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Some of our centres have their own 'shops' where you are able to buy materials at competitive prices. If you have any materials/equipment that might be appropriate please bring them with you.
