Teaching Assistant - Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Certificate OCR Level 2

This Level 2 Teaching Assistant course aims to enable students to acquire essential knowledge, understanding and skills to reflect good practice in a Teaching Assistant role. On successful completion you will gain a national qualification to enable you to qualify as a Teaching Assistant. The course will consist of the following mandatory units: Child and young person development; Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people; Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults; Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people; Help improve own and team practice in schools; Maintain and support relationships with children and young people; Support children and young people's health and safety; Support children and young people's positive behaviour; Support learning activities and Schools as organisations. There will be one optional unit which will be discussed with you at the beginning of the course. By the end of the course students should be able to: Provide support in the classroom, working under the guidance of the class teacher. Identify legislation and a range of school policies and explain how they are put into practice. Identify and describe a range of different types of schools and school staffing structures. Evaluate their own professional development, with support, setting goals and targets for improvement. Explain holistic child development and identify factors that may impact on development. Students should expect to spend 3-5 hours a week working on course assignments in addition to the course hours in the classroom and those in any school placement throughout the course. Successful students will gain an OCR Level 2 Certificate in Supported Teaching and Learning in Schools (scheme code: 04465). This Teaching Assistant course is suitable for anyone who is interested in gaining a qualification to give them skills to support teaching and learning in schools.
