UPDATED 20150720 10:35:11

This 10-week Creative Embroidery course in Maidstone, is designed to give students the opportunity to experience different stumpwork techniques. Many of the skills learnt are transferrable to other areas of embroidery. You will be able to try out a range of different techniques which could be used to create your own design or work to designs provided by the tutor. The course will cover a little of the history of stumpwork, information on where stumpwork collections can be viewed and any exhibitions taking place during the course. The practical aspects of the course will include instructions for a range of skills chosen from the following elements: needlelace stitches, silk shading, couching cords and gold thread, padding, raised surface stitches, slips, wrapping, laying a cordonnet, using leather. Instructions for some elements may have been given in the earlier course (September 2015). Demonstrations can be repeated to ensure as many of the techniques are covered as time allows. Attending both courses will provide you with the skills and time required to complete a medium sized stumpwork piece. There will be ideas and lots of inspiration for using traditional and contemporary stumpwork techniques and incorporating them into your work to create new and exciting pieces. The tutor will bring a range of stumpwork books by Roy and Barbara Hurst and Kay Dennis who are experts in the field. This exciting 10-week course at St Faiths centre in Maidstone is for anyone interested in learning the art of stumpwork. Many of the skills learnt are also transferrable to other areas of creative embroidery. The course is not suitable for absolute beginners to hand embroidery. This 10-week course in Maidstone is a good follow-on from the earlier 6-week course (September 2015) and will build on some of the techniques learnt. It is useful for anyone who is considering taking this beautiful technique to a higher level.
