Oil Pastels

The aim of the course is to give you a grounding in the basic principles of using charcoal, soft and oil pastels. Using a selection of visual resources; pictorial and real objects you will have the opportunity to explore tonal values, colour, composition, and a variety of techniques to blend, layer and create texture. You will learn how to engage with and respond to the work of other artists. The theme for the course is landscape. By the end of this course, you should be able to: produce a variety of mark making for textural and layered effects, learn ways of depicting trees, rocks, patterns of fields, water, reflections and sea, make effective compositions using the above elements to create a whole landscape/seascape, use colour tonally, mix and blend colours to create landscape images, There is no set 'homework', but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home. There is no qualification for this course. Those who are interested in learning to use oil pastels. It is also for those who have some experience and wish to extend their art practice in these areas.
