Lipreading - All Levels

This Lipreading course in Canterbury is for anybody who has an aqcquired hearing loss and wants to learn to communicate better in general converation with family, friends and colleagues. By the end of the course, successful students will be able to: recognise visible consonant lip shapes, long vowels and double vowels and cope with non-visible sounds, use body language and facial expressions to assist lipreading, use fingerspelling to aid lipreading, recognise good conditions and helpful tactics for lipreading - seating, lighting etc, acquire and access information about assistive equipment available for home/office and about agencies which are helpful to people with a hearing loss. Students will also benefit from sharing experiences with others who have a hearing loss. They will find lipreading classes are positive, motivating and enjoyable. They will benefit from increased observation skills, increased confidence and reduced stress. Join this course at any time subject to availability. For adults of all ages who have an acquired hearing loss needing communication support, ie. people who have developed hearing loss after they have learned to speak. No previous experience of lipreading is required and those who have been learning in previous years are also welcome.
