We will have all heard of the 'body in the car park' now that the grave of Richard III has been discovered, but who was he and does he deserve his bad reputation? This course will examine Richard III's reign in the context of the Wars of the Roses and the rival claims to the throne of the Lancastrian and Yorkist factions; will discover what he actually did as King in terms of domestic and foreign policy; will examine how Henry Tudor came to be successful in defeating Richard and replacing his regime, and why and how Richard's reputation was blackened by subsequent Tudor propagandists. This will be of interest to anybody interested in history, particularly that of the late medieval, Wars of the Roses period.
