Sewing - Clothesmaking

Learn high quality construction methods used in the clothesmaking, giving your clothes a shop-bought look. You will be able to work on your own project, at your own pace; your project can be anything from tailoring coats to skirts, trousers, children's wear, fleeces or evening wear. I will show you all the processes needed to complete your project. These will include: choice of pattern and fabric, basic pattern alterations, basic fitting, advice on cutting your fabric; basic construction methods e.g. seam finishes, correct pressing for your fabric. Sewing darts, zips, waistbands and facings, machine buttonholes and use of interfacings. Beginners and those with experience, or individuals wishing to update or refresh their skills.

Entry requirements

We have a number of sewing machines, however students need to be aware that they may have to share or feel welcome to bring their own machines. Students will need to bring basic sewing equipment (pins, needles, fabric and paper scissors, bobbins, thread, ruler, pencil) to all sessions. Advice concerning the choice and amount of fabric required will be given during the first session and it would be advisable for students not to purchase fabric until discussion with the course tutor has taken place.
