Calligraphy - Absolute Beginners

For students who would like to learn the art of beautiful writing. This course is for those with no experience of calligraphy. It will introduce you to the art of fine writing, using a variety of pens, nib sizes, and covers you will explore many different scripts, making lettering come alive. By the end of the course, you should be able to: Hold and use a calligraphy pen correctly;, Mark up your paper for writing on;, Write in at least two different scripts;, Work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines. There is no set 'homework', but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home. Everybody is welcome.

Entry requirements

Please do not buy anything especially for the course until you have been contacted by the tutor, about a week before the course start date, with advice about what to bring to the first session. You will need a calligraphy type pen, ink (if it's a dipping pen), broad-nibbed felt pens, an HB pencil, a t-square or 12' ruler, your favourite poems/prose/recipes etc. eraser and a pad of inexpensive A3 paper. The tutor will advise on other items as the course progresses.
