Stained Glass

Design and make glass items using traditional lead and decorative copper foil techniques and experiment with fused glass techniques. By the end of the course, beginners will have learnt to set out their design, cut glass pieces accurately and completed a small decorative panel using lead and solder. More experienced students will negotiate projects with the tutor. By the end of the course, you should be able to: Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, Demonstrate and understand relevant techniques . Demonstrate successful use of relevant tools, equipment and resources, Use appropriate methods to collect ideas, research and experimentation, Successfully review and evaluate your own work, Research and evaluate the work of others to inform your own work and development, There is no set 'homework', but you are welcome to practise and do further work at home. There is no qualification for this course. For beginners and those with some experience of working with stained glass. Whilst safe working practices concerning the use of lead will be taught, it is inadvisable for pregnant women to use it at all.

Entry requirements

For the first session novice students should bring an A3 size sheet of 3mm clear glass plus drawing materials. Returning or experienced students should bring design ideas and drawing materials. Please do not buy tools without first consulting the tutor. The cost of tools will be approximately £30. The cost of consumables, lead, glass etc will depend on the projects undertaken.
