Sculpture in Clay

This Art course will cover a range of sculpture and ceramic techniques including working from a life model. Projects will include working from the figure, working on individual projects and exploring different building techniques in clay. The course will show you have the build a figure using clay and wooden supports and how to craft your figure to be proportional correct. You will be encouraged to look at the work of artists and sculptors to assist in your projects. By the end of the course you will be able to: Produce a personal piece of work inspired from a collection of resources, Model a figure in clay from direct observation, Complete a clay model through to its final firing, Utilize tools and materials in the making of a piece of sculpture, Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, This course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please speak to a member of staff.

Students need to provide their own materials and these will vary in cost according to the course requirements. Please bring any materials and equipment you have that might be appropriate to the course. You should bring a sketchbook of at least A4 size, preferably with a hard cover, ring bound and containing good quality cartridge paper and a selection of pencils-B to 4B to the first class.
