This one-day course using a soldering iron in embroidery in Maidstone is designed for anyone with an interest in stitching and textiles who would like to extend their skills and learn an exciting new technique, On this one-day Saturday course you will be producing samples of constructed fabric and learning how to make marks with a soldering iron using sheer fabrics and felt. You will learn how to create new fabrics, bond sheer fabric to acrylic felt, make a range of interesting and exciting marks using metal templates and learn how to cut out shapes with a soldering iron. You may also use a sewing machine to apply stitch if you wish and feel confident to do so. Anyone from beginner to the more experienced and confident textile practitioner. There's something for everyone in this one-day creative workshop in Maidstone. Full support will be available from the tutor to enable you to get the best from the course. You will need to bring: Soldering Iron (please try and purchase a fine tipped soldering iron as sold by Margaret Beal as this will give you much better control and better results and is the correct wattage). Flower pot terracotta. This is used as a soldering iron stand so you will need one that is tall enough to hold the iron so it does not touch the base and the hole is not too large that the iron falls over. Fine wire wool inside a small cardboard tube (to clean the iron), Face Mask if preferred, A4 piece of picture glass, edged with masking tape, Metal ruler 6 inch, Mirror plate (useful small ruler), Metal templates anything can be used eg coins for circles, Fabrics, Any synthetic fabrics, can include Nylon Organza, Polyester, glitzy fabric. Try and bring a range of colours, small snippets are also useful. You do not need large pieces. Acrylic felt 23cm square is a good size. Bring sufficient to make several samples. Threads, Silk or cotton for hand stitching, Natural machine threads cotton, silk, rayon. You need to ensure your thread will not melt.
