Experimental Hand Embroidery - Stitches for Beginners

This one-day Saturday experimental hand embroidery course in Maidstone is idea for beginners and those with limited knowledge of hand stitching. It may also appeal to anyone wanting a refresher course and perhaps exposure to hand embroidery stitches that may be new to them. On this day course you will be learning embroidery stitches from different stitch groups, including loop stitches, line/straight stitches, filling stitches and knot stitches. You will also have the opportunity to try samples using different types of thread. You will also learn techniques for starting and ending threads, preparing your fabric for embroidery and some tips for finishing and mounting your work. Mainly directed towards beginners but those who lack confidence in developing their work may also find it exciting and inspiring to try new stitches and work with different threads. Full support will be available from the tutor to enable you to get the best from the course. The aim of the course is to have fun learning!,

Entry requirements

You will need to bring: This course is based on the re-use of found materials It is useful to bring the following if you have them? A few pieces of coloured fabric, Base fabric, A medium weight calico is most useful and easy to stitch, also acceptable is white cotton fabric such as cotton sheeting but not too fine. Both are better washed to remove any dressing. An embroidery hoop or frame of your choice (make sure you have enough fabric to fit inside your frame comfortably. Embroidery scissors, Embroidery needles (not cross stitch needles as these have a blunt 'point'), Embroidery thread, Range of colours and textures. You could consider the following: 6-stranded embroidery thread make sure it is colourfast good brands are DMC and Anchor, Coton a broder (16, 18 or 25 thickness), Perle 5 or 8, Textured thread if you would like to try couching down on top of your, fabric, Notebook and pen/pencils, Sketchbook if you use one, Camera (please note you may photograph the tutor's work for learning purposes only), Glasses if you use them, Lunch !, Equipment required You will need to bring: This course is based on the re-use of found materials It is useful to bring the following if you have them?
