This Weaving course is taught in a centre has a spacious well equipped studio with many 4-shaft table looms and some floor looms. There is a well-stocked yarn cupboard for sample weaving and you will be advised on purchase of yarn for larger projects. Weaving is a popular course with a lively group of experienced weavers to encourage beginners and new students. You will be encouraged to become a fabric enthusiast and enjoy sharing ideas, knowledge and experience of textile crafts, history and culture. You will be encouraged to develop your own designs, explore colour, texture and weaves, and to work at your own pace. The tutor is a very experienced weaver who will guide you through design to achieve a variety of woven patterns. By the end of the course you will be able to: Discuss and develop a design for a woven fabric, using visual source material such as photos, sketchbooks fabrics, colour swatches, Demonstrate ability in planning and making a warp and transferring it to the loom, Analyse and use threading and weave diagrams and patterns to develop own paperwork/photographic method of recording the weaving produced, Demonstrate through research, group discussions, sketchbooks, museum visits etc, aspects of the cultural relevance of handweaving, Beginners and those with more experience. This is a course for students interested in yarns, colour and design. It is important to note that craft courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity.
