On successful completion of this level 3 Teaching Assistant course, you will gain a national qualification for adults working in schools where you directly support the teaching and learning of pupils. This level 3 course will enable you to gain essential knowledge, understanding and skills to reflect good practice in a Teaching Assistant role. The level 3 Teaching Assistant course will consist of the following eleven mandatory units: Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults; Schools as organisations; Understand child and young person development; Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people; Support learning activities;, Promote children and young people's positive behaviour; Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults;, Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young people; Support assessment for learning; Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings; Support children and young people's health and safety. By the end of the course students should be able to: Provide and evaluate support in the classroom, working under the guidance of the class teacher. Identify and evaluate legislation and a range of school policies and explain how they are put into practice. Identify, describe and evaluate a range of different types of schools and school staffing structures. Evaluate their own professional development, with support, setting goals and targets for improvement. Explain holistic child development and identify factors that may impact on development. Students should expect to spend 4-6 hours a week working on course assignments in addition to the course hours in the classroom and those in the school where they work.
