On this Mixed Media course students will be introduced to a variety of wet and dry media, providing a foundation and overview of a range of artistic techniques and practices. This will include media such as charcoal, pencil, acrylic and oil paints amongst others. Students will also learn the formal elements of art and design in a relaxed, structured and progressive fashion. Classes will be mainly tutor led and involve demonstration, one to one and group critiques. The final few weeks will allow the opportunity for students to negotiate their own direction and explore media of their own choice in greater detail. By the end of the course you will be able to: Demonstarte the use charcoal and an eraser to create highlights, Identify mid-tones and darks in a charcoal drawing, Demonstrate how to work in layers using glazes and washes with acrylics, Explain the use of glazing techniques to tint, refine and adjust an oil painting, Be aware of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines, Students who have completed a Beginners course or have some experience of working in Mixed Media or Watercolour from previous courses.It is important to note that Art courses are practical and require a degree of manual dexterity. If you need to bring a carer with you, or be accompanied by another person, please ask to speak with the Programme Manager before you enrol.
