Sewing Bee - Soft Furnishings

From making cushions, curtains and blinds, to making covers for chairs this course will cover a wide variety of soft furnishing sewing techniques. Learners choose their own projects to work on at their own pace. Guidance will be given in the form of demonstrations, group and individual teaching, notes and detailed handouts. By the end of the course you will be able to: Show awareness of and work to relevant Health and Safety guidelines. Identify the most suitable designs and fabrics for your projects. Measure and estimate fabric requirements. Make a cushion with button or zip fastening. Make a pair of lined curtains. Any one wishing to make basic furnishings for their homes. Beginners with or without any prior sewing skills are welcome.

Entry requirements

A basic sewing kit is essential but is not neccessary for the first class. The tutor will advise you, but it could include fine pins, needles, threads, sharp dressmaking sisscors, small embroidery sisscors and a tape measure. A notebook and pen will be needed for most sessions. Any other requirements will depend on upon the student's choice of project and fabric purchase can be discussed with the tutor during the first class.
