This course aims to give you a basic understanding of the techniques involved when using clay working from a life model In making a three-dimensional sculptural object you will consider many possibilities such as the scale of the sculpture, the texture (or surface handling) the character/ expression of the figure. You will be encouraged to make more imaginative work using the model as inspiration for defining more complex ideas and will have the opportunity to explore the psychological and emotional 'life' of your subject. There will be opportunities to visit galleries and museums, a chance to consider the art historical context of this subject. You will learn to interpret the model using clay and will acquire a basic understanding of proportion and perspective. You will learn to choose and select appropriate tools and prepare work for firing. Students are encouraged to discuss their work in a lively and supportive environment. This course is aimed at beginners as well as more experienced students.
