The aim of this course is to achieve an acceptable 'likeness' through the practice of constant observation and visual enquiry. At the first meeting you will be shown 'How to measure' and then, relate size to form and space. A way of drawing will be encouraged using 'the time old method' of using a lay figure i.e. an artist's wooden manikin, to help you get started on the correct proportions of the portrait and figure. As you gain confidence in the following weeks you will be encouraged to start using paint. As the need for regular practice, advice and another 'eye' (tutor) to survey your work is essential. Advice on materials to date methods and practical help will be given, in order that you may be able to realize your potential as an artist!
