Level 2 RHS Practical Horticulture Certificate

This course is designed for those employed in professional horticulture or individuals who wish to improve their horticultural skills across a broad range of practical tasks/activities.  A programme of 6 one-day workshops covering the key subject areas are held regularly - learners can choose from a selection of dates and locations.This course is also the natural follow on after completion of the Practical Horticulture Skills - Level 1 Certificate or the Royal Horticultural Society Principles of Horticulture (Theory) - Level 2 Certificate.

Name: Level 2 RHS Practical Horticulture Certificate Qualification title: Certificate in Practical Horticulture (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment Practical skills assessments will be conducted by the tutor(s) during the course, as well as short written tests (provided by the awarding body) based on the main topics. There is no requirement to study at home, however, you may find it beneficial to spend some time practising the various practical techniques at home or work. You may also benefit from further study in preparation for the plant identification tests. The subject tutors will also reccommend a small amount of underpinning reading that would assist with the written assements. Entry requirements

As this is largely practical and outdoor course it is important to dress appropriately, steel toe-capped foot wear is essential for practical work and a pair of gardening gloves and wet weather clothing would be beneficial. Any specialist personal protective equipment will be supplied where appropriate on training days at the Lackham Campus. Specialist facilities on campus include horticultural/machinery workshops, several glasshouses, polythene tunnels and a Zoological Garden. There are landscaped grounds with a wide range of plants, trees and shrubs, a walled garden containing a varied collection of ornamental and edible plants. There is a comprehensive Library and Learning Resource Centre with computing facilities, internet access and e-study (also accessible from home), available to you to support personal study and course work. It will be possible to undertake educational visits such as the visit to Holland, alongside other horticultural courses at an additional cost. Visit dates are yet to be confirmed, but the residential tour (including stay in a 4 star hotel) will be either late April or early May, the basic price will be around £310 based on a party of 30. Please ask for additional details at the start of the course.
