Bench joinery is a skilled wood trade that is concerned with manufacturing timber components such as doors, windows, stairs and fitted furniture. The materials are prepared by hand or machine to high tolerances. A degree of accuracy is required in assembling and finishing the components. Although mainly workshop based, the work may occasionally involve site visits to fix specialist joinery items.A site Carpenter will be based on a building site, travelling from one site to another installing floor joists, cutting roofs, fixing skirting boards, hanging doors, erecting timber walls, installing kitchen units etc. In the course of his/her duties, the Carpenter uses a range of portable power tools and is often involved in refurbishment, restoration and maintenance building work.

You will be asked to purchase a small number of basic hand tools; a set of bevel edged chisels (three piece set), a 2 inch plane iron and a tenon saw.
