The core of this course looks at the public service sector, its role in society and working in a public service organisation. You will also learn about social and political influences on the public services and begin to understand more about human behavior and how it will affect your work. In addition, you will plan and undertake an expedition, develop leadership skills and learn about how to work in a team. On this course there is an opportunity to discover land and water based outdoor activities and develop personal confidence through challenging yourself and achieving things that maybe you didn't think you were capable of, thus preparing you better for the unexpected demands of a uniformed public service career.You will also improve your fitness. This will prepare you for the physical assessment necessary to get into the uniformed public services.

Entry requirements

You will attend a variety of residentials, expeditions and outdoor activities (e.g. climbing, abseiling, orienteering, archery, trekking, kayaking and sailing). A payment of up to £300 per annum is required to assist in paying for these activities and you will also need to purchase some outdoor equipment such as walking boots.
