UPDATED 20150723 08:43:21

Maths for Adults Who is the course for? The course is for those without formal qualifications in maths who would like to improve their skills and gain a qualification. Learners join the course for many reasons; these include helping their children, improving their job prospects or gaining a formal qualification. What can I expect to learn? This is decided between you and the tutor after an informal talk and assessment. You will have the opportunity to negotiate short term learning goals which will be recorded on your learning plan. You may work on some of the following: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, using and understanding metric measurement, using a calculator. You will work towards a Functional Skills in Mathematics qualification at entry level 1, 2 or 3. How will I learn? The course is classroom based and will be a mix of practical tasks and worksheets. How will I know how well I am doing? Your tutor will provide you with regular feedback, both verbal and written. You will record your progress in your individual learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? Your tutor will discuss this with you. Some learners like to take homework and others do not. If you are able to find time to complete additional work between sessions it will help your progress. What will I need to provide? You will need to provide a pen some paper, commitment to the course and a willingness to take on the challenge and see it through to completion. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) There are no other costs associated with this course. What can I do next? On completion of this course you may wish to progress onto a Maths Improvers course where you can work towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Level 1 and 2.
