Maths GCSE How will this course help me? This course will help you to get the confidence and skills to complete your GCSE in Mathematics Who is the course for? This course is for learners who need a GCSE Mathematics. No previous qualifications are required although a level 2 in Numeracy is useful. What can I expect to learn? The course The topics covered will include: Number – Fractions, decimals, percentages. Algebra – use of letters to represent unknowns, graphs, formulae, equations. Geometry – 2D and 3D objects, angles, Pythagoras’ Theorem, coordinates, scale drawings Measurement – length, mass, time, speed, density, area, volume. Statistics – collection and interpretation of data, bar charts, pie charts, scatter diagrams. How will I learn? The course is classroom based and will be a mix of taught sessions, small and whole group work. Topics are covered from a theoretical and functional point of view. Learners are expected to actively participate in classes. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. If you think that you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the centre staff. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? Yes homework will be set each week. Extra studying time will be needed in order to ensure topic knowledge is fully retained. What will I need to provide? Bring along a pen and paper. A scientific calculator may also be useful. Commitment to the course and a willingness to take on the challenge and see it through to completion is essential. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) There may be course books to pay for. The tutor will provide you with a list at the first class. .
