Introduction to stained glass How will this course help me? To learn stained glass techniques. Who is the course for? Beginners or those with little experience What can I expect to Learn? Familiarisation with tools, equipment and materials Health and safety issues Glass cutting techniques Choice of glass Transfer design to glass Selection and cutting of lead “came” Assembly of panel Soldering, use and care of soldering iron Puttying and final clean up How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Appropriate clothing required (apron or similar), along with sturdy shoes. You may bring rubber gloves for the puttying process. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.? You may be provided with a reading list to support your learning. All of the costs of this course are covered in the advertised course fee. What can I do next? You may wish to enrol on further glass-based courses, such as Copper Foil technique, or on a ceramics course such as Mosaic Making. Discuss your next steps with your tutor or the Centre staff.
