Developing Pottery Techniques How will this course help me? Develop existing confidence & skills in pottery & ceramics Who is the course for? Those with some knowledge & experience of the subject who wish to develop their skills further. What can I expect to Learn? A greater understanding of the whole pottery making process A development of techniques such as coiling, slabbing & moulding Throwing a pot on a wheel Health & Safety in the workshop. How will I learn? There may be demonstrations, a chance to ask questions and to practice at your own pace. There are no exams or formal assessments. If you think you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the Centre staff. We will try to help you. How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. If you think that you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the centre staff. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? An apron/overall or wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. A notebook & pen. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) You will need to pay for clay & firing costs at a cost of 1.00 per pound of weight of your finished pots. Your tutor will advise you. What can I do next? You may want to come on some of our other courses or to progress on to a course with a qualification.
