British Sign Language – ABC Entry Level 3 How will this course help me? You will be able to use basic words and key phrases and ask simple questions in familiar situations using British Sign Language Who is the course for? This Entry Level Award in Signing and Receiving Skills in British Sign Language is accredited by ABC. The course is designed for people who are new to BSL or have only a little knowledge. What can I expect to learn? The course will cover the following topics: Essentials (fingerspelling, simple questions etc.) General Information (Numbers, Time, colours, personal information, days/months, family etc.) Shopping (types of shops, items, sizes, colours, directions in a building) Food and Drink (food & dishes, likes & dislikes etc.). How will I learn? A variety of teaching methods will be used, including: Demonstrations Role Play Videos to improve receptive skills Group and pair work How will I know how well I am doing? The tutor will help you to recognise how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve. This may include developing your own learning plan. If you think that you may need extra help with your learning, please ask your tutor or the centre staff. Will I have to do any work outside of the sessions? You may be given tasks or activities to complete to practice in between and prepare for the next and future sessions. Your tutor will give guidance at the first session. What will I need to provide? Bring along a pen or pencil and paper. Will there be any other costs? (e.g. materials, books, registration with a professional body, etc.) In addition to the course fee there will be an assessment fee – please ask the Centre staff for details
