LAW AQA AS

UPDATED 20160224 16:41:14

In the first year you will learn about the English legal system, including how the courts operate, how law is made and how you can qualify as a lawyer. You will be introduced to two areas of law, criminal law and tort law; both will involve studying legal principles and cases and applying them to problem situations. Unit 1 Law Making and the Legal System: An examination of Parliamentary law-making and how judges can develop and create law through their interpretation of Acts of Parliament and the ways in which they decide cases. An introduction to the courts and people who work in the legal system, including lawyers, magistrates, juries and judges. There will be opportunities to visit Barnsley Magistrates’ Court. Unit 2 The Concept of Liability: An introduction to principles of criminal law, including the law of assault, the tort of negligence, criminal and civil court procedure, sentencing and damages. Being a student at Barnsley Sixth Form College is about much more than your classes. Studying here is different to school; there are no bells, no uniforms and you’ll call your tutors by their first names. You’ll be treated as an adult and really start to develop your own learning style.
