The department supports learners with a learning disability or difficulty to prepare them for either independent living or supported employment. Each learner will have an individual/bespoke learning plan and curriculum timetable to suit their individual needs and interests. You will study areas in your individual learning plan. These may include the following: • PSD/Employability • Functional skills in numeracy, literacy and ICT Vocational Options • Art and Design • Sport • Catering • Retail • Animal Care • Horticulture • Hair and Beauty • Construction • ICT and Creative Media • Car valeting Real Life work Experience opportunities in: • Café/Catering (in-house) • Shop/Retails (in-house) • Other placements with College and with external employers Additional • Volunteering opportunities • Community projects • Enrichment opportunities • Learning and social support can be provided and support with travel training You will work towards an accredited entry Level and Level 1 study programme and follow a personalised time table. There are four steps which enable you to begin at a suitable starting point and progress to achieve your personal goals. • Step 1- for those students with complex additional needs • Step 2-programmes designed to support students looking to develop their independent living skills • Step 3- for students aiming to develop their employability skills, including volunteering and work experience opportunities • Step 4- the Supported Traineeship programme: combining work experience with an employer and time in College to gain a qualification
