Functional Skills Return to English

UPDATED 20150709 14:57:03

Do you want to improve your English Skills and found GCSE hard? Then Functional Skills maybe the route for you. It is a much more practical approach to learning English. Popular with employers. You will learn how to communicate information, ideas and opinions clearly and to take part in discussions. You will listen and respond to explanations and instructions. You will read a range of factual texts (timetables, leaflets, reports and film reviews for example) and show that you can understand them. You will learn how to write down information, ideas and opinions clearly and effectively. The course will improve your technical skills in English (grammar, punctuation and spelling). There is no requirement to study Shakespeare, novels or poetry. If you do not get a C or above in GCSE English, you will have to retake this alongside your studies, or be working towards this through Functional Skills English.
