Ideal if: you would like a career in hairdressing or beauty therapy. You'll need: at least two GCSEs at grade G or above, or an equivalent qualification. You'll learn: from a mixture of practical and theory sessions covering topics such as hand care, nail art, skin care, shampooing, women's hair styling, and make-up application. Expect: to be continually assessed throughout your coursethrough practical assignments and examinations. You'll love: the practical hand-on training which will give you valuable industry skills. You'll go on to: employment, apprenticeship or further studies at level 2 such as our Beauty Therapy Diploma or Women's Hairdressing Diploma. In some areas this course may be available to pre-16 learners, and it is suitable for learners aged 16-18 who are thinking about a career in hairdressing and beauty therapy. This qualification will help you to learn basic skills and will give you valuable, background knowledge of the hair and beauty industry. For many it is the first level of qualification leading on to Level 2 and 3 in either hairdressing or beauty, and is an ideal starting point for those who aren't sure which subject to choose. You will study this course within our Hair and Beauty Salons. During this course you will learn about both the hair and beauty industry. Units that you will cover are: health and safety, personal presentation, shampooing, plaiting, styling, handcare, skincare, face painting, photographic and make up. You will also attend personal and social development skills as well as tutorial and functional skills, which will all help to support you in your learning. You will need a uniform and a kit.
