D898 - This course is aimed at people new to, or already in the welding and fabrication industry who require academic qualifications in welding and fabrication. The course can form part of the Apprenticeships framework, and is suitable for mature students. There are three core units: Unit 001- Working Effectively and Safely in an engineering environment Unit 002- Engineering Principles and Practice Unit 003- Principles of Welding There are three optional units: Unit 015 Manual metal arc welding Unit 016 Metal inert/active gas mig/mag welding Unit 017 Tig welding Unit 019 Thick Platework Unit 020 Sheetmetal work Unit 024 Pattern development Successful candidates can apply for the Higher National Certificate /Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Successful completion of the course will assist progression into employment and also widen opportunities within the general welding environment.
