This two year course allows you to expand upon the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma course enabling you to access more advanced college and work based positions in subjects such as Veterinary Nursing, Midwifery, Mental Health Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Forensic Science, Pharmacy, Optometry, Nursing or Radiography. The course, comprised of 12 units, is equivalent to TWO full A levels and has been designed to give you the opportunities to develop your skills in the practical application of scientific knowledge through exam free vocational work that is designed to give you a work-focused alternative to traditional A levels. Students not wishing to continue to the second year will achieve a Subsididary Diploma instead of a Diploma and this is equivalent to ONE A level. The 1st year course is a general introduction comprising 3 compulsory units: Fundamentals of Science, Working in the Science Industry and Scientific Practical techniques. The course is based around applying scientific ideas and techniques in real-life contexts. Learning activities will include practical work, independent research, class discussions, presentations, online interactive tutorials, worksheets and note taking. As well as knowledge and understanding of the science used in a variety of areas you will develop the following skills: - Using apparatus skilfully and safely - Producing and recording valid and reliable measurements and observations - Presenting and analysing data - Research skills - Identifying and evaluating resources - Clarity of oral and written expression - Discussion and presentation skills - Making notes
