The course is essentially concerned with the management of businesses in all its aspects. The central theme is the decision making process common to all areas of business activity. You will soon become aware that business activity is an integrated process and that decisions made in one area always have an impact on other areas. There is a strong element of numerical work in developing your understanding of the quantitative methods which businesses use to research and measure future objectives and actual performance. Subject content: What is business? Managers, leadership and decision making Decision making to improve: - marketing performance - operational performance - financial performance - human resource performance Analysing the strategic position of a business Choosing strategic direction Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies Managing strategic change Business activity is diverse and so is what happens in lessons. You will be involved at various times in discussion of current and topical business issues, group decision making, pair activities and research exercises, role-play and presentations to the class as well as individual problem solving and the study of business techniques. This subject will help you develop a variety of skills including: problem solving, decision making, managing your own learning, using numerical techniques with confidence, effective communication, working with others and judgement and evaluation. You will also develop your IT skills as you will have access to the Internet during most lessons to carry out research or take course notes. You will learn how to use Chromebooks to store documents in the cloud, share them with your peers, carry out group work and communicate with your teacher.

Name: GCE A Level in Business Qualification title: GCE A Level in Business Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment This course has no coursework or controlled assessment. You will need to take 3 written examinations assessing all of the above subject content at the end of your second year (this is a linear two-year A Level course). Each exam will be 2 hours long, will have 100 marks in total and represent 33.3% of A-level weighting. Some questions will be multiple choice, others will be short answer questions or essay questions each worth up to 33 marks.
