The Access Course is for people interested in careers such as nursing, midwifery, health studies, occupational therapy, ODP and speech therapy. You study core skills units: Psychology, Sociology, Research Skills, Study Skills, Maths, Tutorial and Professional Development, plus other specialised units relevant to your chosen pathway i.e. Human Biology. You prepare for diploma or degree level study and there is plenty of support to help you apply for the next stage. The course aims to develop language, study skills and team work through the study of the above subjects. Assessment is based on both home and in-class assignments. Students are expected to study at least 15 hours a week at home as well as time in class. For people who have been out of education for at least one year, who do not have the standard entry qualifications to apply directly for degree courses.
