HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE Single

UPDATED 20161011 11:28:12

This qualification is for learners who want to study health science, social care or childcare. The Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care is an Applied General qualification which is the same size as one GCE A level. This allows for the qualification to be taken as part of a study programme alongside other Vocational Qualifications or A levels, such as Cambridge Technicals in Science, A level Biology, A level Physics or Cambridge Technicals in Engineering. The Extended Certificate will give learners an understanding of HSC in the wider contexts of different environments and settings where care takes place, the importance of effective communication in HSC, the importance of legislation in HSC and how to deliver a person-centred approach in the care given. Learners will also develop transferable skills such as communication, research, planning and organisation.

Name: HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE Single Qualification title: Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care Qualification type: Other regulated/accredited qualification Assessment There are 4 mandatory units, and 2 optional units. 3 of these are externally assessed through examinations, the other 3 are assessed internally through portfolio work. External units will be assessed through examinations which are comprised of a mixture of short answer questions and questions requiring more extended responses. These will be sat in January and/or June. Internal units will be assessed through a series of assignments completed throughout the year within lesson time and as independent work outside of lessons. These will then be externally moderated by OCR. Each unit has specified grading criteria for pass, merit and distinction. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction: • to achieve a ‘pass’ a learner must have satisfied all the ‘pass’ grading criteria • to achieve a ‘merit’ a learner must achieve all the ‘pass’ grading criteria and all the ‘merit’ grading criteria • to achieve a ‘distinction’ a learner must achieve all the ‘pass’ grading criteria and all the ‘merit’ grading criteria and all the ‘distinction’ criteria. If a learner doesn’t meet all the ‘pass’ grading criteria, we issue an unclassified result for that unit.
