EITHER Maths Core Mechanics Mathematics students study the following modules in Year 13: Core Mathematics 3 Core Mathematics 4 Mechanics 2 In Core Mathematics 3 and 4 you will further your knowledge of Differentiation and apply this to rates at which variables change such as depths of water in reservoirs and how quickly hot air balloons rise. You will also learn how to calculate volumes of revolution to model 3-Dimensional objects. You will learn about vectors in 3-D and how they can be used to solve geometric and construction problems. In Mechanics 2 the analysis of real life situations is progressed further by modelling a projectile’s speed and trajectory and looking at objects moving in circular motion. You will learn to understand the work, energy and power of a system. You will learn about the forces applied to rigid objects involving moments, sliding and toppling on inclined planes. OR Maths Core Statistics Decision Mathematics students study the following modules in Year 13: Core Mathematics 3 Core Mathematics 4 Decision 1 In Core Mathematics 3 and 4 you will further your knowledge of Differentiation and apply this to rates at which variables change such as depths of water in reservoirs and how quickly hot air balloons rise. You will also learn how to calculate volumes of revolution to model 3-Dimensional objects. You will learn about vectors in 3-D and how they can be used to solve geometric and construction problems. In Decision 1 you will learn how many different jobs in the real world use maths to solve optimisation problems such as laying TV cables using the minimum length of cable and planning routes for delivery using the shortest distance. You will learn how to use linear programming methods to maximise profit and to work out the required amounts of ingredients to do so.
