ANIMAL CARE - LEVEL 1

This course is an introduction to animal care in the land based industries and provides an opportunity to investigate job opportunities and to acquire appropriate vocational skills. The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who wish to develop personal skills and qualities required for work in the land based industry, particularly animal care. You will study the following: 2 Core Units: * Safe and effective work practices in the land based industries * Develop performance in the land based industries 1 Specialist Unit: * Assist with maintaining the health and wellbeing of animals 4 Optional Units: * Assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals * Introduction to wildlife and conservation * Assist with the feeding and watering of animals * Assist with the handling and restraint of animals All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills. All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths, English if not already awarded an A*-C in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into Further or Higher education, training or employment.
