ANIMAL CARE - LEVEL 3

This course will provide you with a knowledge base for a range of careers in the animal management industry. It will provide specialised studies relevant to individual vocations and professions within the industry and help you develop a range of skills and techniques essential for successful performance in working life. The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in the animal care and management industry. You will study the following units in the first year of the programme: * Animal Biology * Animal Handling & Safe Working * Animal Health * Work Related Experience * Animal Nutrition * Feeding and Animal Accommodation * Animal Behaviour and Communication * Animal Welfare and Breed Development * Wildlife Rehabilitation If you successfully complete the first year you will be eligible to enter the second year of the programme where you will study the following units: * Animal Anatomy & Physiology * Pet Store Design & Animal Management * Biochemistry & Microbiology * Aquatics Husbandry & Management * Investigative Project * Zoological Animal Health & Husbandry * Ecology & Conservation * Exotic Animal Health & Husbandry * Animal Breeding & Genetics A work placement has to be completed as a mandatory part of the course; the placement should be arranged by the learner themselves and may involve access to animals from the categories of: * Large animals * Companion animals * Rodents * Exotics species All LMC students will receive tutorial support. All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and maths qualifications or GCSE Maths, English if not already awarded an A*-C in these subjects. Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant maths and English qualifications to support progression into Further or Higher education, training or employment.
