UNIT 1: PERFORMING – Students have the opportunity to perform as a soloist and/or in ensembles. Performances can be in any style and on any instrument as part of a 5-6 minute internally assessed performance of a grade 6 standard. UNIT 2: COMPOSING –This unit encourages students to develop compositional skills leading to the creation of a three minute piece. This unit is externally assessed. UNIT 3: DEVELOPING MUSICAL UNDERSTANDING –Students will listen to set pieces and need to understand how they work and be able to identify musical features and understand their social and historical context, as well as completing a short passage for SATB in the style of J. S. Bach. Which modules will you take? UNIT 1 = Coursework, Internally assessed, externally moderated, 30% of AS, 15% of A2. UNIT 2 = Coursework, Externally assessed, 30% of AS, 15% of A2. UNIT 3 = Examination, Externally assessed, 40% of AS, 20% of A2.
